We are in the early stages of shaping the vision for Lawrence Plaza as a vibrant, mixed-use community. This is an exciting opportunity to enhance the site and strengthen its connection with the surrounding neighbourhood through:

  • Fall 2024 / Winter 2025

    Concept and Design Development

    Our consultant team began to develop an initial vision for the redevelopment of Lawrence Plaza and gathered preliminary community feedback on the vision.

  • February/March 2025

    Reimagining Lawrence Plaza Survey

    The Reimagining Lawrence Plaza survey was conducted to gather community feedback on the overall vision and design of the proposed development. The survey launched on February 14, 2025, and closed March 14, 2025, and received over 1,800 responses. Feedback was shared on key themes of the proposed development, including:

    • New Public Park & Community Amenities
    • Public Realm & Streetscape
    • Housing & Built Form
  • March 4, 2025

    Community Open House

    A Community Open House was held on March 4, 2025, from 6:30-8:30pm at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School. Community members were invited to share their thoughts and ideas for a new mixed-use community at Lawrence Plaza. An open house for our commercial tenants was held earlier that day to gain their feedback and address any of their specific comments and questions.

    First Planning Application Submission (Zoning By-Law Amendment)

    We submitted our first Zoning Bylaw Amendment on June 6, 2025, following feedback from the City, our tenants, and the community. Our application materials are available through the City’s website, linked here in the Supporting Documentation section.

Located on the northwest corner of Lawrence Avenue West and Bathurst Street in the Englemount-Lawrence neighbourhood of Toronto, the existing plaza consists of retail on the ground floor with office on the second floor.

    Lawrence Plaza is a commercial retail property covering approximately 10 acres. It primarily features retail spaces with office units located on the second floor of select buildings. The plaza is home to over 50 stores, including major anchors such as Winners, Metro, TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank, CIBC, LCBO, Shoppers Drug Mart, and United Bakers, along with a surface parking lot.

    What is the future vision for this site?

    We are in the early stages of developing our vision for this site. We plan to create a vibrant mixed-use community with new housing, retail spaces, a public park, improved roads, pedestrian connections, and thoughtfully designed, well-integrated, open spaces.

    Will there be public space for the community to use?

    Our initial vision for the site features a central public park designed to be accessible and welcoming for new and existing residents. We also plan to incorporate retail spaces throughout the development, creating a vibrant, pedestrian-focused community that seamlessly connects with surrounding neighborhoods. These new open spaces and connections will enhance accessibility and foster a sense of community, enriching the experience.

    What is the timing for the proposed redevelopment?

    We submitted our first planning application to the City of Toronto in Spring 2025 taking into consideration the comments and feedback from our early community engagement. The City’s review, followed by design refinements, and an application resubmission will be a thorough process during which we will continue to engage the community for further input. The first construction phase will commence once all required approvals are in place and market conditions are favorable. We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide key updates as we progress.
